WHO SHOULD I SEE FOR MY PARTICULAR ISSUE?
When we get asked this question, we like to turn it back to you for a moment: What have you tried in the past and was it successful? If a particular therapy has helped in the past, then it’s likely to be a great choice for you now. If it’s a new issue, or if past treatment was not that helpful, we’d be more than happy to suggest a therapist who we think is the best choice for you. We’ll consider your specific injury, your schedule, and your preference for male/female if you have one. If we ever feel that you’d be better served to see a different provider we’ll let you know immediately.
WHAT MAKES TALL TREE DIFFERENT?
Well, at the risk of tooting our own horn, we’re pretty convinced we have the best, most qualified clinicians around. Our clinicians hold themselves to the highest standard of care; using evidence-based and cutting edge techniques, continually pursuing ongoing education and professional development, and fostering a culture of education and learning. Longer treatment times that are entirely one on one mean that your health professional is giving you 100% of their attention and care. There is no bouncing between multiple patients, and you won’t be abandoned to lay alone with a machine buzzing on you. In fact, we use very few electro-therapeutic machines since the evidence points to them being ineffective.
As a bonus, the clinic itself is a beautiful space. Our private treatment rooms and state of the art gym provide a perfect environment to get you better.
If clinical excellence and a tranquil atmosphere aren’t enough to wow you, we also have the added benefit of having multiple services under one roof, flexible hours, and direct billing to almost all third-party payors (Work Safe BC, ICBC, Pacific Blue Cross, Sunlife, Great West Life, Green Shield, and many more).
HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT BE?
This will vary from service to service, but here’s a quick breakdown:
Physiotherapy: First visit: 45mins Follow-ups: 30-mins
Registered Massage Therapy: Your choice! But for your first visit, we generally recommend at least 45-minutes, so as to allow for some assessment time.
Chiropractic: First visit: 45-mins Follow ups: 30-mins
Kinesiology: First visit: 60-mins Follow ups: 60- or 30- minutes (depending on exercise plan)
ARE THE EXERCISE CLASSES RIGHT FOR ME?
Probably! We have something for almost everyone. Our small class sizes are always customized to the participants in them. We have one for osteoporosis; another for back strength; one for seniors; and yet another for people with injuries.
If you’re looking for something that’s more about sweating and getting a good workout, we do that too! We love it when a group (up to 6 people) come in and set up their own personalized exercise class. Our exercise experts will work with you and match the workout to your group’s unique goals.
DO I NEED TO BRING OR WEAR ANYTHING SPECIFIC?
Generally speaking, you’ll want to wear loose-fitting clothing that you can move easily and comfortably in. You’ll also want to make sure that the therapist can access whichever body part is causing you pain or discomfort (e.g. knee pain: wear/bring shorts; shoulder pain: wear/bring a tank top).
DO I NEED A REFERRAL?
We don't require a referral for any of our services, however, some extended health plans do require a referral in order to be eligible for coverage. If you have extended health coverage and are hoping to be covered for your treatment, you may want to check the details of your plan.
HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
Just give us a call or check out our online booking site. If email works best for you, we will do our best to accommodate you but phone calls or online booking will always help ensure the most up to date availability.
DOES MSP COVER ANY OF THESE SERVICES?
If you qualify for Premium Assistance MSP, then MSP will cover $23 per visit, for up to 10 visits per year for all services combined (PT, Chiro, ND, Acu, RMT). Otherwise, unfortunately, regular MSP doesn’t provide any coverage.
Many people will, however, be covered by their extended health plans. We try to make things easy for you and will usually be able to directly bill your service charge to your insurance provider. Check here to see what insurance companies we direct bill to.
DO YOU OFFER "DIRECTION TO PAY"?
Tall Tree is happy to offer a "Direction to Pay" program for the following services: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Active Rehabilitation. This is designed to facilitate ICBC patients with legal representation to get access to timely rehabilitation services.
What we need to get started:
- An ICBC claim number.
- A current referral from a doctor for the therapy required.
- A signed direction to pay form, which we will provide you with at your first appointment
HOW DID TALL TREE START?
Bradley Jawl, the founder of Tall Tree, started working on the clinic way back in 2004! It took him a while to get the job done—the first clinic wasn’t up till 2015. He likes to think of himself as the tortoise in the stories—slow, but deliberate.
Bradley’s imagination was sparked by a childhood riddled with injuries; his awkward athleticism saw to it that he spent a good deal of time in rehab. His positive experiences with healthcare providers prompted him to get into that field. He started by studying Physiology and Kinesiology at McGill University. It was there that he met a few like-minded (injured, average, and mostly retired) athletes, and it didn’t take long for them to decide that they would all like to work together at a holistic health centre when they were done their training.
The training took longer than expected, and pulled the original comrades to different ends of the country. The dream however lived on. There was a black flip-pad note book that was slowly filling up with ideas; some of which in the realm of reasonable.
Bradley continued his studies with a masters and doctoral program in Physiotherapy. These grounded his imagination and the notebook filled up with ideas that were a bit more realistic. During his doctoral program, Bradley was reading what felt like the entirety of the research in rehabilitation sciences. He identified a large number of interventions and team-based care pathways that were extremely effective. It all went in the notebook and ultimately shaped the complexion of the team, the design of the building, the philosophy of clinic, and the care pathways of our patients.
The remaining mystery is how did Bradley get such an amazing team of clinicians together? Well, it wasn’t on craigslist. Bradley in most cases chased and wooed clinicians to come work at Tall Tree; he would try to hook them with the promise of a beautiful facility, nerdy-yet-fun culture, and platitudes of no-holds-barred best practices. When that didn’t work he would beg and plead, and he didn’t mind going to great lengths because he understood that no matter what kind of bells and whistles are going on, the core of a great clinic is great clinicians, and Bradley figures that he's found some of the very best.
